A milestone event: the 1st caisson at Xiaomo International Logistics Port Phase 1 was installed

A milestone event! At 14:30 on October 24, 2018, the 1st caisson at Xiaomo International Logistics Port Phase 1 in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone was installed, which marks the port entering the full construction stage, from underwater to onshore.

Two 50,000dwt multi-purpose berths and workboat berths are planned to be built at the first phase dock of Xiaomo Port. There are 36 caissons in total with 31 large ones, each of which weighs about 2,700 tons (22.25m long, 14.10m wide, and 17.85m high), and 5 small ones, each of which weighs about 800 tons.

The foundation trench and harbor basin at Xiaomo Port Phase 1 were dredged on April 28th, 2018 and the first caisson was prefabricated on June 17th. In late September, the installation progress of caisson was seriously affected by two typhoons. One of them was Mangkhut, which caused heavy trench siltation, covering the dumped rocks in the foundation bed. Fortunately, the Shenshan Company speeded up the pace to desilt the trench and examined each step once it was qualified. It also organized people timely to strengthen and level the foundation bed. With the supports of committees and companies in the Cooperation Zone and the joint efforts of all units, all caissons at Phase 1 have been installed within six months, ensuring the construction progress.

Xiaomo Port is reported as a basic pilot project for the development of “Port-Industry-City integration” in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone. It is positioned to be built as the core port hub and the comprehensive port business district in the east of Guangdong. The port undertakes and provides services for the industrial development of the Cooperation Zone and the industry spillover in Shenzhen.
